Family

James Loynachan Anderson and his wife Jessie (28) are in Lachute by 1921,
where Stewart appears as 6 years of age, James ( Jimmy) is listed as a
what appears to be owner of a garage, they were living on Cross Street.
The son of Jimmy and Helen , Jamie was a mechanic, he owned a garage in Lachute,Quebec, where it is said he constructed the very first mobile home , an ice fishing shack modified and mounted on a truck chassis so that he and his companions could move about easily when the ice fishing season began. A portable house on a truck frame is exactly what we call a mobile home in this age (1990). Jamie was invited to come to St. Lambert Quebec, to help his nephew Murray Macfie build a home on Curzon St., as they were building this particular home, his son Hillard (Hiddy) decided that he also was in the market for a home, so Jamie worked on both homes. It is said that Murray 's home on Curzon St. was constructed with half the necessary building products, and that Hillard's was constructed with the other half. This was just after the Second World War, the manufactures of steel products were just winding down their military operations and returning to their main products lines. Often Murray and Jamie would have to travel far and wide to locate the necessary building material as it became readily available at the different manufacturers. They often had to purchase what products were available as they came of the production line, and the first two houses were put together with odd sizes of wood and nails, as either not enough material could be bought at one time, or the product available was not quite the right type needed to do the work. The houses however had to be built and they were. Murray sold his house to his brother Arthur in 1961 and he in turn after having to put many expensive repairs in to the house sold it to a third party in 1985. Hillard just sold his Curzon Street house lately and moved out west near his son Watson

Jamie having gotten the knack of house building (just at the right time as St. Lambert was a booming little bedroom community, growing by leaps and bounds) began a home building career. His son Donald just lately sold the home Jamie built for himself and his wife, Jessie Stewart, in the early 1950's on Logan St. in St. Lambert. You can still walk around St. Lambert Quebec and notice the houses that Jamie built, they all have the same square type construction.
