Helen Ruth Pineo, 75, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at York Hospital, after a long illness.

Helen "Obie" was born May 21, 1937, in Needham Mass., a daughter of late Frederick J. Oberacker, Jr and Emma Blanche Peters. Obie spent much of her early childhood in Needham and Orleans, Mass. She eventually settled for a short time in Rochester, and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1955.

In 1958, she graduated from Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Medford, Mass., with a diploma in nursing. Obie spent time raising her family, and then she returned to her studies. In 1989, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Salem State College with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau.

In 1991, she obtained a Master's of Science in Nursing at Northeastern University in Boston. Her last nursing position in the 1990s was as a public health nurse for the Department of Health and Human Services of New Hampshire in Portsmouth.

Wife of the late John F. Pineo of Brookline, Mass. - former owner of Brookline Moving Co., Inc. and Brookline Storage Inc. - Obie and Jack worked together for years managing the family moving and storage business until they passed the helm to their son Chuck in 1991.

Obie leaves her children, Jan Coleman and her husband Keith Coleman of Brookline, Mass.; Chuck Pineo and his wife Regina Pineo of York, Maine; her beloved grandchildren, Katie Pineo of York, Elizabeth Pineo, Kurt Coleman and Julie Coleman all of Brookline, Mass.; a sister Janice Oberacker of York and her brother Donald Oberacker. She recently lost her beloved yellow Labrador, Chipper. Obie also leaves many close and supportive friends.

The family would like to thank the supportive and loving staff that cared for in Obie in her home for the past five years, and the professional and caring staff at the Edgewood Center in Portsmouth. During the past few weeks the staff of Biewend South at York Hospital, Dr. Jean, Dr. McAbee and Hospice of Southern Maine provided Obie with respect and dignity during her last days.

An avid nature lover and birder, Obie spent many hours outdoors with her binoculars in search of new birds. Her favorite activity was spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Calling hours for Obie will take place from 11-1pm on Sunday, Nov. 25, with a service to begin at 12:15 in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine. Burial will be private in the Walnut Hills Cemetery in Brookline, Mass.
