Elizabeth's grandmother was an Easton, hence her second name. At the time of Elizabeth's marriage, she and her parents were living in Montreal.
The Moffat family immigrated from Roxborough, Scotland around 1830 and settled in Beechridge (St. Urbain), Que. Elizabeth's father, Samuel, and his wife, Mary-Ann Gault lived on a farm known as the "Moffat Place". Samuel never liked to farm. He took cattle and horses to England on several trips. Samuel left the farm and moved to Montreal in 1885 and started a job with the Grand Trunk Railway (now the Canadian National Railway). There is an old part of Montreal, Que. Can. called "Griffin Town" and there is a street in Verdun called "Moffat St.". These were after the Moffat family. After Mary-Ann died in 1903, Samuel moved back to Beechridge where he built a blacksmith shop and a small house for himself.
