WILLIAM JAMES CARSON
The demise of Mr. William James Carson, manager of the St. John's (Nfld.) Branch of the Hudson's Bay Company, which occurred at his residence. LeMarchant Road, shortly after two o'clock Monday morning, after an illness which lasted but a few hours, is deeply regretted by a large circle of friends and acquaintances throughout the country, in Canada, and elsewhere. The late Mr. Carson had been at his duties as usual on the day preceding his death and had been in excellent health up to ten o'clock Sunday morning, when, following a hearty breakfast, he complained of feeling ill. Doctors Tait and Cowperthwaite were summoned to his bedside almost immediately, but despite all medical attendance and the efforts of his loving wife and family, the Angel of death winged the soul of the deceased to his eternal reward at the hour stated above. Whilst born at Montreal, P.Q., Mr. Carson had resided at St. John's for a number of years, and, marrying a lady of his adopted country, was in every sense regarded as a true and worthy Newfoundlander. Affable, courteous, and of an exceedingly kind disposition, he was truly one of nature's gentlemen. His passing will be a distinct loss to the community, as he was always held in the highest esteem by all whose privilege it was to know him. As a regular attendant and a devout churchman, he will be remembered by the Select Vestry of the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin as one whose zealousness, fervour and fidelity won for him a hallowed position of respect in the church's activities. The late Mr. Carson had been associated with the Hudson's Bay Company for nearly twenty-five years on the Quebec coast, in Newfoundland-Labrador and for the past twelve years at St. John's, Newfoundland. He was appointed to the important post of Manager of the St. John's (Nfld.) Office some ten years ago and during all those years through general efficiency, long experience, courtesy and personality, upheld the traditions of the great Company whenever and wherever its aims were to be furthered in the development of the Colony and Labrador. The deceased was a son-in-law of Mr. Stephen Bradbury, of H. M. Customs. He is survived by a widow, son, and daughter, who reside in this city; a sister, Mrs. William Mulroney and one brother Mr. Stanley Carson, Both of Montreal, P. Q.
