Sig was born in Norway and came to Kasson, Minnesota, U.S.A. in the fall of 1911. He worked for his brother-in-law. He came to Canada in the spring of the following year and worked for a railroad grading outfit at Cabri, Saskatchewan, until freeze-up. He then went to Pincher Creek, Alberta, where he and three other men trapped muskrats until January. He went to Spokane, Washington, Vancouver and out to Victoria, where he worked in the woods until spring. He worked on a farm at Strathmore, Alberta, that summer, then went to Avonlea, Saskatchewan, for threshing.
In the late fall of 1913, he came with his brother, Gus, to homestead. He filed on his land the next spring and broke twenty acres. He then went to Alberta and worked until late fall. He stayed with Gus that winter. In the spring of 1915, he built a shack, broke some more land and picked rocks. in June, Clarence Hanson and Sig walked to Gull Lake and took the train to Pincher Creek, Alberta, working there until after harvest, then returned to the homestead.
Before the town of Frontier began, Mrs. Shirley and later, Mrs. Skogstad baked bread for him.
