The fourth of five children born to Charles E. and Anna (Marsh) Peters. His family emigrated from New Brunswick to Massachusetts in 1850.
Absalom married Jane White, the daughter of Daniel and Margaret (MacLeod), at Brookline, MA in 1883. They were the parents of three daughters, Esther M., born in 1883; Jessie M., born in 1888; and Edna R., born in 1891.

Obituary from the Brookline [MA] Chronicle
Absalom P Peters, a resident of Brookline for the past thirty years, died at his home on Franklin Street Tuesday morning at the age of 75 years. He had been ill for about a week. Funeral services were held at his late home Thursday afternoon and burial was at Walnut Hills Cemetery. Rev. William R. Leslie of St. Mark's Church officiated and selections were rendered by the Beethoven Quartet. He is survived by a widow and three daughters, Mrs. James White, Mrs. Harry Sproul and Mrs George Slater.
